There’s some unfortunate news for fans of Gakido. On the early morning of February 12th around 9:20AM, bassist Rito was driving Gakido’s van was traveling down the Shin-Meishin Expressway, to their live in Nagoya. Everything seemed fine until the right tire in the back blew, driver Rito couldn’t gain control of the van, and as a result, the van went into a roll.
As the accident occurred, Piyo’s body was thrown from the van, and he was killed instantly. TOSSY and a fellow staff member is currently hospitalized, however TOSSY is conscious. The other members seem to be alright, with only small wounds that needed a few stitches.
It is very surreal, as you can check their blogs, a few of them posting only hours, if not even minutes before the accident had happened.
After the remaining members gathered together, they left messages relating to the incident on their blogs. We’ve translated them for you below:
- Rito
I have an announcement everyone. Yesterday we were traveling to the next destination on our tour, but we had a terrible car accident. I’m sorry that it’s been difficult to write.
I was the one whom was driving the van at the time. I noticed that the left wheel in the back had busted, and I tried to control the van as best I could, but the van went into a roll and it was difficult to control. My inability to control the vehicle resulted in damages.
As the van had rolled, Shutaro and Piyo were thrown from the van, he hit his head really hard and took his final breath. I think he may have died instantly. Surprisingly, Yohya and Yuu managed to get away from the wreckage with only a few minor injuries. Shutaro was another person who suffered severe wounds to his body. His injuries required three stitches on his side, but he can walk on his own. He decided that he did not want to stay in the hospital.
TOSSY suffered a great deal of injuries as well on his entire body. He needed stitches, but none of his injuries will threaten his life thankfully. The staff member whom was also riding with us had a similar amount of injuries, and were also not life threatening. Though, both of them are still in the hospital to make sure that nothing went unchecked, and that they will be alright.
As for myself, I took a hit to my right side, my shoulder mainly was injured, and I had to get a few stitches on my head. I can walk on my own and my consciousness is clear.
Sometime soon, maybe a few days or so, we will give all of the details regarding the incident and about our activities on the OHP.
We’re truly sorry for making you worry, sincerely we are.
All of our friends and fans who have managed to contact us, and to all of those connected to the band, we are grateful for your efforts.
- Yohya
This is to everyone who is somehow connected to Gakido.
Before I say anything else, I want to appologize to anyone who has been worrying. We thank you for all of the messages that all of you have been sending us with your concerns and supportive messages.
On the morning of February 12th, members and staff of Gakido were traveling in a van. On the route to Osaka to Nagoya, we got into a car accident. The back wheel on the van busted and Rito lost control of the steering, the van rolled, and there was severe damage.
Yuu and I only have small wounds, however Rito’s body took a hard blow and had to have head stitches. Shutaro took a hard blow also to his entire body, and also had to get stitches, but only three on his side. The four of us were fine and did not pass out, and we are now together and able to move on our own without help.
TOSSY and another staff member were really injured, and are in the hospital, however both of them are now awake and the doctors announced there are no life threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Piyo was thrown from the van and took a blow to the head, which resulted in his instant death.
This is the current state of things. We’re truly sorry for giving you a delayed reply. When we are able to deliver more information about our schedule, activity, etc, we will update the OHP.
- Shutaro
I’m really sorry for making everyone worry. You should know that everything is currently calm at the moment. When we were on the road from Osaka to Nagoya, and the back wheel bursted, there was no way to control the van, we ended up rolling. When we rolled, both Piyo and I were thrown from the van. I was even wearing a seat belt, and somehow I was still thrown out of the van.
My head, neck, back, legs, everything, I slammed into the ground very hard. I had to receive stitches in my side, only three though. Yohya and Yuu both had very minor injuries. Rito had head stitches, his right side was pretty messed up.
TOSSY had head stitches too, but we don’t know the severity of his injuries, but whatever it is, it isn’t life threatening. He will remain in the hospital though, along with our staff member who also has stitches. Piyo was thrown out of the van, taking a blow to his head, and died instantly.
When we are able to inform everyone about everything, including our schedule and everyone’s recovery, we will update the OHP.
Again, I’m very sorry for making everyone worry.
- Yuu
